12CP NAS: Part 4

Somehow it appears lockdown means that I am rather busy. Busier than expected. Anyway, I have managed to get the NAS up-and-running and equipped with a couple of 2.5 hard drives (yes, mechanical hard drives, not SSDs).

Given the moderate need for storage at 12CP I have opted to purchase four Western Digital WD10JFCX-68N hard disks, each with 1T capacity. And, yes, these are Western Digital NAS drives, and, no, they aren’t WD’s SMR NAS drives, but are CMR drives.

As can be seen in the OpenMediaVault dashboard above various services supporting different backup options are provided (Apple’s Time Machine, RSync for my Linux RPi4 server with its VMs, and SMB for the Windows using black sheep of the family).

The screenshot below shows the four hard disks as identified by OMV. I’ve already started using the NAS for its intended backup purposes, but it’s still sitting in the cupboard with its lid off. There’s still a little bit to do in terms of cable management and connection – it would be nice to have some indicator LEDs and power/reset buttons on the front panel.

Back to work now – I am busy.
